The StudyUp resources are in the process of being updated, video recordings are being replaced with self-paced interactive online tutorials for those unable to attend the live sessions.

PhD Writing Skills Workshops: This popular series of workshops has been specially designed to support the writing development of higher research degree candidates at Massey University. The workshops are presented and facilitated by learning advisors from the Centre for Learner Success who are experienced in supporting doctoral students through each stage of their writing process. In addition, there is a session facilitated by Massey University’s librarians that covers how to create and structure long documents, as well as tips on using Endnote.

PhD Writing Skills Workshops: Long docs: Learning how to navigate your thesis as a long document In-Person

This workshop provides an instructional tutorial for students writing long documents. In particular, it looks at how to:

  • Structure a long document
  • Create a table of contents
  • Work with sections and page breaks
  • Insert headers, footers, page numbers etc, and 
  • Provides tips on how to deal with Endnote citations in long documents

On campus locations - This workshop will be held in the VLT rooms on each campus (Albany AT4 | Palmerston North GLB1.14 | Wellington 5C17).

Workshop recording - This workshop will be recorded, and shortly afterwards (usually 3-5 days), the link will be emailed to everyone who registered or made a request.

Viewing the workshop via live-stream - There is also an option to view the workshop while it is happening. If you are not on campus and would like to view the workshop via live-stream, please contact Cherie (c.todd@massey.ac.nz) to request the link NOTE: The link for live-stream viewing will not be available until 1-2 weeks prior to the event.

Not a PhD student? That’s okay. We welcome all students, especially Masters and other postgraduates who are seeking advice and support regarding academic writing standards.

Covid19 alert levels: The majority of these workshops are planned to be held in the VLT rooms on each campus. However, if the Covid19 alert levels change, these workshops will be moved to Zoom. Students will be notified via the LibCal Event Calendar webpage and the Doctoral Stream page.
